Medupi Legacy Programme

The Medupi Legacy Programme is a well-coordinated and integrated programme whose objectives are to ensure that, while Eskom is building the power station to keep the lights burning, it leaves a sustainable legacy in the Lephalale municipal area and Waterberg District Municipality, which would contribute to the Limpopo Provincial Gross Domestic Product.

The mission of the Medupi Legacy Programme is to ensure that the immediate socio-economic concerns of the local community are addressed, these being health, education, infrastructure development, employment creation and procurement opportunities. At the same time the foundation for sustainable growth and development is laid through skills, enterprise and general infrastructure development. This is done in partnership with Eskom contractors, as well as in engagement though the Lephalale Development Forum.

The Medupi Legacy Programme focus areas are as follows:

  • local procurement¬†- procurement within RSA;

  • local to site procurement¬†- procurement within Lephalale, Waterberg and Limpopo Province;

  • procurement from B-BBEE compliant suppliers, Black Women Owned (BWO), Small Black Enterprises (SBE) and Black Youth Owned (BYO) suppliers, as well as People Living with a Disability;

  • Job creation, especially for the locals; skills and enterprise development initiatives for the locals;

  • Bulk infrastructure development in assistance of the municipality, socio-economic development initiatives and corporate social investment.
