The Eskom Foundation provides assistance to many impoverished rural communities by supporting community self-help projects with donations for the purchase of necessary equipment and materials.








The Eskom Development Foundation granted funding to provide fencing material, building supplies, paint, an irrigation system for the food garden, as well as brick-making equipment and material for the scheme’s three income-generating projects.
It also purchased furniture, education and office equipment, kitchen utensils, English/Tsonga dictionaries for the school-going children, playground equipment and a cargo container – to be use d as an arts and crafts training venue.
Bread of Life

Bread of life, operating within Langa in the Western Cape, is a community based organisation that concentrates on developing the Langa community so that its people become responsible, committed and productive members of their families.
Bread of Life aims to achieve this through programmes that include HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention programmes, life skills training, care and support for orphans and vulnerable children, nutrition and sport and cultural activities.
The Eskom Foundation assisted Bread of Life with funding to buy computers, office equipment and other materials necessary for its programmes.
The Durbanville children’s home

The Durbanville children’s home in the Western Cape cares for 144 children between the ages of 2 to 18 years and has a history of service that goes back 126 years. The facility cares for traumatised children and provides stability, security, healthcare, food, clothing, housing and, most importantly, love and affection to the children in its care.
Eskom Foundation donations support the home in its work.
The Goedgedacht Trust

The Goedgedacht Trust follows a rural development model designed to combat social problems which occur in poverty-stricken communities. The core components of the programme are education, health, personal development and care for the planet. The Trust reaches more than 1 300 children and 650 adults from 35 farms and three other rural communities.
The sustainability of projects and programmes is one of the key strategic objectives of the Goedgedacht Trust and its organic gardening/olive farming project gives agricultural support to 65 emerging black farmers from the West Coast region.
These farmers receive training on their own farms and on Goedgedacht farm, and make use of its equipment pool to plough their lands and look after their own olive plantations.
Eskom’s contribution included the purchase of the equipment required by the farmers and also 2 750 olive trees for the farm.
Imekhaya primary school
Imekhaya primary school in KwaNonqaba, Mossel Bay, has been operational for 21 years, providing equal opportunities to 758 learners, as well as special education for learners with special needs.
Apart from the normal curricular and sporting activities, the school runs numerous additional extracurricular initiatives to the benefit of learners, parents and the broader community, such as a community sewing project, soup kitchen, traditional dancing, music and drum majorettes.
The Eskom Foundation donated funding towards additional kitchen appliances and equipment for the soup kitchen and assisted in setting up the sewing project in the school hall for 18 women who will be making uniforms, tracksuits and jerseys for the community.
Mangaung old age home

Mangaung old age home is an established non-profit organisation situated in Bochabela, Bloemfontein, Free State which serves 80 helpless, destitute, bedridden, abused and elderly senior citizens. In addition to these resident seniors, another 31 receive home-based care and another 35 senior citizens, day care.
An essential fund raising project at the home is a venue on the property which is used for corporate and private functions . At the heart of this facility is kitchen donated by the Eskom Foundation.
Camp Hill Village

Camp Hill Village in the Western Cape is a residential facility for frail senior citizens and adults living with intellectual disabilities and special needs. Caring for 84 residents, Camp Hill has 11 group homes and offers residents opportunities to work in its bakery, dairy, vegetable garden, coffee shop and cosmetic workshop.
Eskom Foundation’s support took the form of a donation to purchase bakery equipment.
