South Africa has long been a country with two economies. The first is the “formal” economy populated by corporations, large businesses and industry with the infrastructure that is typical of a “first-world” economy. The second economy, which is also responsible for most of our job creation, is the informal sector which is comprised of micro, small and medium-sized businesses (SMMEs) that operate outside primary business areas.

Business Incubator programme, in partnership with Government’s Department of Trade and Industry, creates jobs within existing businesses. Small businesses are provided with premises and the training and equipment to be productive and competitive in the market segments in which they operate. Most of these businesses are not involved with Eskom as suppliers, or even located near Eskom sites.
