Eskom wins top sustainability award
Eskom’s Integrated Report 2011 was recognised and awarded 2nd place in the Ernst and Young: Sustainability Reporting Awards event for 2011 held at the Johannesburg Securities Exchange on 19 October 2011. The winner in the 1st place was the Bidvest Group and Anglo Gold Ashanti took the 3rd place. This follows the award for excellent Corporate Reporting received by Eskom on 12 September 2011, also from Ernst and Young of which Eskom was one of only 10 companies regarded as Excellent.
This award distinguishes Eskom as an organisation committed to sustainable development by integrating the financial aspects of our business with open disclosure of sustainability challenges, progress and prioritising Zero Harm for people and the environment.
In his comments Jeremy Grist, Head of Climate Change and Sustainability Services at Ernst & Young, noted that “While The Bidvest Group and Eskom are not resources players, they have demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability reporting and shown that their boards consider it to be important to their businesses.”
Eskom was named one of the Top Five (5) companies in the Ernst and Young Excellence in Sustainability Reporting in 2010.
These outstanding achievements were only made possible by hard work as a collective and we encourage you to continue embracing the positive work ethic you have displayed for Eskom to realise the vision of becoming a world-class power utility.
Next year Ernst and Young will be combining the two award ceremonies into one “Integrated Reporting Award” and I look forward to us meeting the challenge to be amongst the best.
