Update on the Eskom prepaid online vending system
Friday, 03 February 2012: The Online Vending System used by Eskom’s pre-paid customers to purchase electricity was back in operation this morning after Eskom shut it down overnight to effect repairs. Vending has been taking place normally for much of today (Friday) and progress has been made in stabilising the system. However the system continues to experience intermittent problems and customers may at times have difficulty purchasing pre-paid tokens.
We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.
We are monitoring the performance of the system closely. We have a team of internal and external experts working to identify and address the causes of any problems.
We are working hard to restore the service back to the levels customers expect. We will keep you updated on changes to the system, and you can also get the latest information from our customer service centres on 0860 37566 (0860 ESKOM).

Eskom has temporarily taken the prepaid electricity vending system offline to effect repairs
Thursday, 02 February 2012: Eskom has temporarily taken the prepaid electricity vending system offline from 8 o’clock this evening. The system is being switched off to address performance issues. A public announcement will be made when the system is back online.
A team of internal and external technical experts has been working round the clock to identify and address the problem.
Eskom apologises to customers who will be unable to purchase prepaid coupons during this period.
This is not related to electricity shortages, but is an IT system issue. The prepaid vending system is used by prepaid electricity customers to purchase electricity coupons. Customers who have already purchased prepaid coupons will be able to use them. Supply to customers who do not use the prepaid system is not affected.
We also have an urgent safety message for prepaid customers: treat all electrical installations with extreme caution to avoid incidents.

Eskom is experiencing slow performance of its prepaid Online Vending System
01 February 2012: Eskom is investigating the cause of slow performance on its prepaid Online Vending System. The system is used by prepaid customers to purchase electricity tokens.
It is important to note that the system is not down but that its performance is slow. Customers can still purchase their prepaid tokens but the process may take longer than normal.
Eskom has had technical issues on its vending system last year. Remedial work has been done and the system is more stable but we are still working to improve the performance of the system.
Eskom would like to apologise to customers who are affected for any inconvenience caused. We are working to restore normal levels of performance as soon as possible.
