Consultation and Application Process
This section applies for any prospective generator that will need to be synchronised to the Eskom grid, irrespective of who the buyer of the energy would be.
The Consultation and Application process begins with personalised, one-on-one discussions between the prospective IPP and the Eskom IPP customer executive. The purpose of this engagement is to understand the requirement of the IPP, the options available and the program being chosen. During these discussions the IPP Executive informs the prospective generator of the process that needs to be followed during the Consultation, Application, Quotation and Connection phases. Please complete the following Generator Grid Access Application form which outlines the minimum information required by Eskom to conduct an evaluation of the feasibility of connecting generators within Eskom’s networks.
This application form is in two parts.
- Part 1 must be filled in for Eskom to provide an (non-binding) estimate of the cost of connection.
- If the required conditions are met to proceed with a budget quotation, Eskom will request Part 2 of the application form to be completed for the detailed interconnection and power system studies.
All of the information stipulated in the application form must be provided prior to the commencement of any cost estimates and ultimately if approved, cost quotations.
It should be noted that it is the applicant’s responsibility to comply with the applicable technical, design and operational standards detailed in the South African Grid Code and the South African Distribution Code. Copies of the codes may be downloaded from NERSA’s website www.nersa.org.za.
This application form may be completed as a hard copy or as a soft copy together with all supporting documentation. An electronic (soft copy) submission is preferred and can be submitted to the contact e-mail addresses indicated in Eskom Grid Access Unit Contacts.
