Background The Eskom Development Foundation, herein referred to as the Development Foundation, is an independent Section 21 company, which incorporates and integrates Eskoms social responsibility initiatives. The Development Foundation was incorporated on 12 December 1998 and commenced operations on 1 January 1999. The Development Foundation operates in all nine provinces of the Republic of South Africa in areas that are underdeveloped, especially in rural areas and new urban settlements. The Development Foundation provides grants for economic development as well as donations for social projects/programmes. Payments may be to beneficiaries, suppliers, service providers and/or partners. The donation of assets is also facilitated by the Development Foundation and accounted for on behalf of the Eskom Holdings Ltd.
