HIV / AIDS

The South African government has introduced a national strategic plan to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and to reduce the impact on individuals, families and communities. The National AIDS Council coordinates the efforts involving different sectors including business. A comprehensive information program is in place. Awareness of the problem is high (96%) and increasing. Behavior is changing, with the demand for free condoms rising. The government focuses on education, prevention, research into how to reduce the spread of the disease and vaccine development, as well as increased access to treatment.
