Negotiations with Tokologo Local Municipality continue
FRIDAY, 9 MARCH 2018: Payment negotiations between Eskom and Tokologo Local Municipality are still underway and no agreement has been reached thus far. Although Eskom set a deadline of Friday, 9 March 2018 for the conclusion of negotiations to avoid a daily 14 hour interruption of bulk supply to the Municipality from Saturday, 10 March 2018, Eskom opts to rather continue with the current schedule of interruptions pending conclusion of the agreement.
“Negotiations with the Municipality are proceeding in good faith and we are appreciative of the Municipality’s efforts to make payments and enter into an agreement with Eskom,” says Bibi Bedir, Eskom Senior Manager Customer Service, Free State.  “We are also wary of the impact that the supply interruptions have on the communities of Hertzogville, Boshof, Dealesville and Seretse and will therefore continue with the current interruptions instead of increasing it to 14 hours per day.  However, should the negotiations reach a dead-end; we will immediately proceed with implementing the daily 14 hour interruptions.”
Scheduled supply interruptions of bulk supply to Tokologo Local Municipality commenced on 21 February 2018 due to the Municipality’s failure to honour its Eskom debt totalling R36 464 659.52 as at 31 January 2018.
Bulk supply to Tokologo Local Municipality is being interrupted at the following times:
Monday to Friday
Saturday and Sunday
06:00 – 09:00
08:30 – 12:00
17:00 – 20:30
15:00 – 19:00
Should no agreement be reached, interruptions will be intensified and implemented as follows:
Monday to Friday
Saturday and Sunday
06:00 – 20:00
06:00 – 20:00
Eskom urges all electricity consumers in the affected towns to make sufficient arrangements to limit personal and business loss and to ensure that effective contingency measures are in place to prevent serious injury or loss of life that might result from the scheduled interruptions.
Notwithstanding the above proposed indicative times for the interruption of electricity supply, Eskom may, upon 15 calendar days’ notice, serve the right to disconnect electricity entirely and indefinitely should the electricity debt situation not improve.
