Update on supply interruptions to Free State Local Municipalities
FRIDAY, 07 SEPTEMBER 2018:  In an effort to combat escalating debt by Free State Local Municipalities for the bulk supply of electricity, Eskom implemented revenue management initiatives resulting in scheduled supply interruptions to some Free State Local Municipalities.
Such interruptions were previously suspended due to payments made and agreements reached.  However, Eskom is closely monitoring these municipalities’ payments and will immediately institute corrective action at the first signs of default.
The following progress has since been made:
·         Masilonyana Local Municipality met its payment obligation on 23 August 2018 and the next payment is due on 26 September 2018.

·         Nala Local Municipality has not met its full payment obligations and the parties are still negotiating regarding the outstanding amounts.  The next payment date is 03 October 2018.

·         Tokologo Local Municipality met its payment obligation on 17 July 2018 and subsequently submitted a revised payment plan.  The next payment is due on 19 September 2018.

·         Matjhabeng Local Municipality met its payment obligation on 20 August 2018 and subsequently proposed a payment plan.  The next payment is due on 03 October 2018.

·         Moqhaka Local Municipality met its payment obligation as per the agreement and the next payment date is 17 September 2018.

·         Dihlabeng Local Municipality met its payment obligation on 20 August 2018 and the next payment is due on 07 September 2018.
Should any of the above Local Municipalities not pay the next instalments by the due date, scheduled supply interruptions will continue on a date to be communicated.
