Eskom rated one of the most attractive employers
Friday, 12 May 2017: Eskom last night (Thursday, 11 May 2017) scooped three prestigious awards from Universum at their annual awards ceremony held in Sandton, Johannesburg.

“Every year talent across the country vote for whom they believe are South Africa’s Most Attractive Employers This year, Eskom achieved first place in the Most Attractive: Key Occupation (Electrical Engineers) from Engineering Professionals. Further, in the 2017 Engineering/ Technology Students category, we came third, sharing the podium with Google (1st) and Sasol (2nd).  In the 2017 Engineering/ Technology Professional category, we also came third, sharing the podium with Google (1st) and Microsoft (2nd),” says Ms Elsie Pule, Group Executive for Human Resources.

Universum is considered to be a global leader in Employer Branding. The organization prides itself with working with top universities, alumni groups and professional organizations to gather insights from students and professionals in 60 countries in order to advise employers on how to attract and retain talent that fits their culture and purpose. Universum partners with 1700 clients globally from small scale to big business.

“Eskom has a long and proud history of being an employer of choice among students and professionals, especially in the Engineering/ Technology category. Over the years we have scooped several awards and have often been associated with being in the top 3 or top 5 Employers of Choice,” Ms Pule adds.

From 2008 to 2014/15, we have been in first position. Unfortunately last year (2016) in the “Student” category, we came third, sharing the podium with Transnet (1st) and Sasol (2nd), and in the “Professional” category, we also came third, sharing the podium with Google (1st) and Microsoft (2nd).

The South African Student Survey and the South African Professional Survey are annual independent studies conducted by Universum South Africa. The Student Survey is done in partnership with the careers centres of all the state universities and the professionals survey is done in partnership with Alumni Associations and Professional Associations. The survey questions respondents on a rage of career related matters including who they believe to be the Most Attractive Employers – those companies that they would most like to work for. The Most Attractive Employer Rankings are the official rankings generated from this study

“These awards reflect the combined efforts we have made in the fields of Engineering and Technology amongst professionals and students. It also highlights the important role we play as an employer in the South African landscape, and contributes to the general value proposition of Eskom, as a preferred employer. We may have slipped in position a few times, largely due to organizational and reputational risk challenges, but Eskom has made phenomenal progress as a result of the organizational turnaround committed to by Board and ExCo. It is our intention going forward to actively partner with the relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure that we steadily climb back to top position, Ms Pule concludes.
