Legacy Programme - Job Creation

By the end of March 2013, the Project had a total labour force of 16 800 individuals employed on the construction site. Lephalale residents make up 7 259 (43.2%) of the workforce. 71.5% (6 830 out of 9550) of the unskilled and semi-skilled come from within the Limpopo Province. 95% of the total workforce are South Africans. 53% of the total workforce are youth (that is people below the age of 35 years). The youth, that is people aged below 35 years, constitutes about 53% of the total labour employed.


An additional 1 815 are employed in supporting service such as security, catering, cleaning, gardening, etc. The majority of these (at least 98% of these are residents of Lephalale Municipality Area.


It is estimated that the project may have, or will indirectly create approximately 25 000 employment opportunities within the Waterberg District through retail expansion, various roads construction projects, Mokolo Dam expansion project, Crocodile River expansion project, etc.
