Renewable energy

Making use of green energy is an excellent way to reduce your operating costs, but it is only one of the benefits - promoting your green credentials and being recognised as ‘green’ will help you to:

  • Create unique selling propositions
  • Improve your competitiveness
  • Boost sales
  • Improve brand awareness and loyalty

Your energy advisor can guide you in developing a renewable growth strategy, enabling you to take advantage of the benefits of renewable energy.

South Africa has delivered great advances and innovations in the clean energy space, which greatly contributes to the country’s sustainable energy solutions and the meeting of environmental targets. SA has also seen a growth in distributed generation of clean energy via flexible, small- scale, grid-connected technologies producing electricity close to, or where it will be used.
As such, Eskom is developing renewable energy solutions to further sustainable development, expand our service offering, and to drive energy efficiency and productivity in South Africa.

The renewable tariff programme

Eskom is creating a renewable energy utility solution to assist you in delivering on your renewable energy commitments without procuring renewable energy from third parties such as independent power producers or installing your own renewable plant at huge capital costs. The Renewable Energy Tariff pilot will allow you to source up to 100% of your electricity from Eskom’s renewable sources that have been accredited as “green”. . During the initial pilot phase of our Renewable Energy Tariff programme we are able to collectively offer all our customers a maximum of 300 GWh per annum of renewable energy  generated from our Sere wind farm.
Benefits

The initiative is designed to provide you with a cost-effective option by only paying a supplement on your current tariff for the renewable electricity used monthly, without the initial capital investment required, and is set to run from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2022. The pilot programme also offers ultimate flexibility, giving you the opportunity to determine the percentage of your total electricity usage that needs to be clean energy.
How do you apply?
Any Eskom customer whose electricity account is up to date. You can contact your local energy advisor for additional information and assistance, or email our project manager.
