Meters
Eskom currently has more than 5.8 million prepayment meters installed. All proprietary prepayment meters have been removed and only STS based meters are installed.

There are strict procedures in place to evaluate and certify meters for Eskom use via the tender process for an Eskom National Contract. Eskom Regions may then order products off the existing contracts as they are required.
In addition there is a process defined to evaluate new or unproven technologies for Eskom. All these processes are described in detail in the documents listed under the links for processes below.
