Allen Morgan

Allen Morgan – ESKOM CHIEF EXECUTIVE 1994 – 2000

Allen started his career in the Western Cape, where he gained experience in both Generation and Distribution. After six months he joined the New Works Department and got involved with building substations and the 400 kV network for the Eastern Cape.

In 1980 he was transferred to the Operations Department (Maintenance) where he was appointed as Distribution Area manager in the Western Cape.

From 1982-1985 he acted in a double role as Distribution Area Manager (East) and Power Station Manager for Hex River.

In 1985 he moved to the Transvaal and became the Manager of (Management Services), for the Eastern Transvaal Region.

In January 1986 he became the Regional Manager of the Orange Free State Region. He was instrumental in establishing a new Eskom region.

In January 1988 he was transferred to Megawatt Park as the Distribution Divisional Manager for division four.

On November 1988 the Eskom Management Board announced that he had been appointed as the new Deputy General Manager of the Distribution & Marketing Group. His responsibility was for directing the activities of Eskom’s twelve Distribution and Marketing Regions which distributed electricity throughout South Africa to more than 600 local authorities, large electricity and mining customers.

As Executive Director of Sales & Customer Service, Marketing and Electrification of under developed areas. He also exploited new markets and developed Eskom’s business locally and internationally.

Four to five years prior to his appointment as Chief Executive designate Allen gained a lot of experience from liaising with government, provincial and local authorities, community representatives, boycotts and none-payment issues.

In 1993 he was appointed Chief Executive Designate.

In March 1994 he took office as Chief Executive and Chairman of the Management Board.
