Eskom has established a Grid Access Unit (GAU) to serve as a single point of contact for all Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and electricity generators. The Unit is designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and efficiency in the process of connecting to, and operating within the national grid. Through the GAU, Eskom provides non-discriminatory grid access and operations for all IPPs and generators, supported by clear guidelines and governance structures. The initiative also aims to create transparency in pricing policies, network contracts, and operating agreements, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions. Furthermore, the Grid Access Unit is responsible for developing an optimised IPP connection process and defining future operational procedures for IPPs and generators, ensuring a more efficient, inclusive, and sustainable energy network. |
