Structural tariff component changes
Key adjustments have been made to the recovery of fixed costs through the Generation Capacity Charge (GCC) and the service and administration charges:
Generation Capacity Charge (GCC): For applicable tariffs, the GCC rate is increased to 30% of the originally proposed 2025/2026 Retail Tariff Plan (RTP) rand-value, up from the previous 20%. To offset this, energy rates for affected tariffs have been lowered.
Homepower and Homeflex Tariffs: The fixed portion of service and administration charge increased to 66.66% of the originally proposed FY2025 RTP rand-value, (up from 33.33%). Corresponding energy rates have been reduced to ensure the total annual increase aligns with the overall average increase.
Future Tariff Option
Easy Electricity purchase options
To make buying prepaid electricity simpler and easier for households, we will be introducing Easy Electricity purchase options. These are not new tariffs, but simplified options based on average monthly usage for existing residential categories. These options allow customers to choose electricity amounts or rand-values more easily. Notably, once purchased, these prepaid tokens do not expire.
