Conducting a walk-through energy assessment

The walk-through energy assessment forms part of Eskom’s free service offering, which supports the growth and sustainability of your business. It’s a detailed examination of your building’s energy use and operating costs to identify any glaring areas of energy waste or energy inefficiency. This forms the basis for recommendations to reduce your usage and costs by implementing operational and equipment changes. By reviewing your energy consumption and implementing a tailored solution, you will be able to efficiently increase your energy productivity, enjoy a cost saving on your monthly bill, and ultimately, maximise your output.

The initial meeting with your advisor will involve an analysis and audit of your current electricity usage profile.  Through a discovery session involving a series of questions, discussions and an informal walk-through of your business, your advisor will have collected sufficient energy use insights to understand where, when and how your electricity is being consumed, mapping out your consumption patterns.

At the end of the process an energy assessment report will be provided, documenting the details of your energy use. Your advisor may recommend the following:
  • How to improve energy efficiency through improvements in your operations and maintenance cycle.
  • Which energy-saving technologies to implement.
  • The potential for load shifting and switching off of unnecessary equipment or processes during certain times of the day.
  • A possible tariff review.
  • An assessment of the quality of your energy supply. The audit could establish that you may need a larger, or even smaller, supply point.

How to avoid or reduce your Notified Maximum Demand (NMD) charge. Exceeding the NMD could result in penalties – your Eskom energy advisor can assist you with cost saving solutions.
