Use electricity smartly This initiative is designed to provide you with all the energy saving tips and tricks you need to use electricity smartly so that you can curb your household electricity usage during the evening peak period from 5 to 9 pm. By rallying together, we can make a huge difference to reduce the demand on the national power grid and work towards minimising the need for loadshedding in South Africa. Did you know that South African households use the most electricity between 5 and 9 pm? When we get home from work, we start our evening routine – preparing dinner, bathing the kids and switching on lights and TVs, and in winter, heaters too. By working together, we can reduce this electricity peak in the evenings. Use Electricity Smartly is a joint national campaign, actively supported by the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), the Government Communication & Information System (GCIS), and Eskom.
