Be little bit smarter when doing maintenance and operating appliances around the house.

Adjust blinds and curtains in rooms that receive direct sunlight. Allow warming sunlight in during the day and then draw curtains and blinds to keep warm air in and block cold drafts.
Close windows while air-conditioners are running.
Don’t over heat empty space use programmable thermostats. Have maximum control over the HVAC system. Reduce the heat (with a few degrees) at specific times when rooms are empty or when everyone is sleeping. Program the thermostat to warm up again as needed.

Switch off units 30 minutes before leaving the office.

Set air-conditioners’ average temperature in winter between 18 to 20°C.
Create awareness amongst the family members responsible for the setting of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems to lower the temperature setting in winter.
Clean air filters. It is extremely important to monitor the condition of the air filters during peak usage periods.  A dirty filter can cut down on efficiency and cause HVAC units to work overtime, leading to higher winter heating bills.
Insulate and seal
Prevent heat from escaping or cold from entering by insulating and air sealing openings to the building.
Consider replacing old systems.
New, energy efficient systems offer enhanced control functionality and higher levels of energy efficiency.
Set HVAC systems  to circulate warm air instead of drawing in cold air from the outside.  Capture and circulate waste heat from ovens or laundry operations where possible.

Bonus Tip:

Dress warmly. It doesn’t cost anything to wear warmer clothes indoors and by doing so you can keep the temperature inside the building a few degrees cooler and save energy and money.
