Failure to pay leads to scheduled supply interruption to Masilonyana Local Municipality
Monday, 15 October 2018: Masilonyana Local Municipality’s failure to meet their payment obligation to Eskom has resulted in scheduled supply interruptions to the Municipality, commencing on Wednesday, 17 October 2018.
Brandfort, Theunissen, Verkeerdevlei and Winburg will be affected.
A notice to interrupt supply to the Municipality on 18 July 2018 was published on 08 June 2018. The interruption was suspended following a satisfactory payment.
To ensure that defaulting Free State municipalities adhere to the conditions of their payment agreements with Eskom, the power utility closely monitors their payments and immediately institute corrective action at the first signs of default.
Masilonyana Local Municipality did not meet their payment obligation on 26 September 2018. Extension was granted until 12 October 2018 but unfortunately Masilonyana yet again failed to meet its obligation. Eskom is left with no other recourse than to continue with the interruptions to Masilonyana Local Municipality as per the following schedule:
Week 1: 17 October 2018 until 23 October 2018
Monday to Friday
Saturday and Sunday
06h00 – 09h00
08h30 – 12h00
17h00 – 20h30
15h00 – 19h00
Week 2: 24 October 2018 until a payment agreement has been reached
Monday to Friday
Saturday and Sunday
06h00 – 20h00
06h00 – 20h00
Notwithstanding the above proposed indicative times for the interruption of electricity supply, Eskom may, upon 15 calendar days’ notice, serve the right to disconnect electricity entirely and indefinitely should the electricity debt situation not improve.
Eskom advises all parties who are likely to be materially and adversely affected by the contemplated interruption of bulk electricity supply to Masilonyana Local Municipality to take all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of lives and to limit damages to their equipment, operations and business.
