1923 - Eskom was established on the 1st of March as the Electricity Supply Commission (ESCOM).

1925 - System control centre established at Simmerpan (Today this is Eskom's National Control Centre, controlling the national network grid as well as the generating output of all Eskom power stations) - Cape Town, Witbank, Sabie and Central Natal undertakings established - Maliveldspruit hydro station the first power station to be built by ESCOM. 

 

1926 - Witbank and Colenso power stations commissioned.

1927 - ESCOM takes over Colenso power station from the railways - Sabie hydro power station commissioned (Sabie was the second power station built and run by ESCOM) 

1928 - Congella and Salt River 1 coal fired power stations commissioned (Congella was one of the first power stations in the world to burn pulverised coal) 

1929 - ESCOM achieve sales of approximately 800 million units.

1930 - Two additional sets of 20MW at Witbank power station make it the largest power station in the country with a total of 100MW producing the cheapest electricity in the world. - Witbank connected via the country's first 132KV transmission line to the existing Rand network, making it one of the world's major networks. - ESCOM builds Doornpoort Dam on the Olifants River to supply Witbank power station (The abundant water supply and cheap electricity formed the cornerstone for future industrial and coal mining developments in  the Witbank area)
