No loadshedding is expected today, but the possibility of loadshedding has increased
Monday, 02 March 2020: Eskom does not expect to implement rotational loadshedding today, but the possibility has increased that we may have to implement loadshedding. Overnight some generation units tripped unexpectedly, further reducing available capacity. We are utilising more emergency generation reserves than initially planned to supplement supply. However, some generation units are planned to return to service today and tomorrow. This will improve the power system outlook for this week and help reduce the possibility of loadshedding.

We remind customers, however, that the generation system remains constrained, vulnerable and unpredictable. As such, loadshedding could be implemented at short notice if there is a change in the generation system performance. We request customers to continue using electricity sparingly to help curb demand.

Unplanned breakdowns or outages were at 13 804MW as at 07:20 this morning and planned maintenance outages are at 6 511MW.

Eskom reminds South Africans that there is a possibility of increased loadshedding over the next 18 months as we are conducting critical maintenance to restore the ageing plant to good health.

We request customers to continue to use electricity sparingly and to assist us in reducing demand:
  • Set air-conditioners’ average temperature at 23ºC
  • Switch off your geysers over peak periods
  • Use the cold water tap rather than using the geyser every time
  • Set your swimming pool pump cycle to run twice a day, three hours at a time
  • At the end of the day, turn off computers, copiers, printers and fax machines at the switch.

We appeal to customers to revisit their loadshedding schedules on the Eskom (http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za) or local municipal websites, depending on their electricity supplier, to review amendments.
