OVERLOADING LEADS TO TRANSFORMER FAILURE AT THABONG HOSTEL
SATURDAY, 20 JUNE 2020:  Overloading of the transformer supplying the C-Hostel in Thabong, Free State, has led to recurring transformer failures and ultimately loss of supply to the Hostel.
Since Friday, 12 June 2020, the transformer supplying the C-Hostel has been replaced twice but has been failing repeatedly due to a rapid increase in supply caused by illegal connections.  On Thursday, 18 June 2020 – less than a week after the initial transformer replacement – the same transformer failed after being replaced the previous day.
The frequency rate of replacing this transformer calls for concern as it is outside the normal lifespan of a transformer. As a result, Eskom has since run out of replacement transformers and is in the process of sourcing a transformer.  This will unfortunately impact the restoration time.
Residents are urged to remain patient and to refrain from illegally connecting their electricity supply as it exacerbates the situation and leads to longer outage duration.
Further enquiries to be directed to the Eskom Contact Centre (08600 37566 / ESKOM).
