THEFT AND VANDALISM ON ESKOM LINE RESULTS IN COLLAPSE OF SIX STRUCTURES
SATURDAY, 07 NOVEMBER 2020:  Theft and vandalism of pylons, stay wires and conductors on the Everest-Welkom Bulk line outside Welkom in the Free State resulted in the collapse of six Eskom towers.

While no supply is lost due to the damage, any damage on the parallel line feeding parts of Welkom and some mines in the area might lead to a loss of supply.  Furthermore, this criminal behaviour puts additional pressure on Eskom’s already strained resources that could have been utilised elsewhere.

In the last week, Eskom repaired two Eskom lines outside Welkom where structures collapsed due to theft as well as four Eskom towers of which parts were stolen.

These deplorable acts of theft and vandalism are strongly condemned.
