Cable theft leads to loss of supply to Hoopstad and Hertzogville

SATURDAY, 26 JUNE 2021: Cable theft at Giraffe Substation in the Free State has resulted in a loss of supply to approximately 3 850 Eskom customers in Tikwana and on the Oppermansdrift, Kameeldoring and Ferdinand rural lines, as well as municipal customers in Hoopstad and Hertzogville.
 
Supply was lost at around 21:45 on Friday, 25 June 2021 when protection cables in the substation were cut and stolen.
 
It is estimated that supply should be restored this afternoon. 
 
Eskom condemns these criminal acts that lead to vast financial losses for Eskom and inconvenience to our customers.  We apologise for the inconvenience and assure customers that the repairs are being attended to with the required urgency.
 
During the supply interruption period, electricity users are urged to treat all electrical lines, sockets and appliances as live and dangerous.
