Dlamini community prevents Eskom from installing prepaid split meters

Friday, 28 January 2022: Eskom has switched off electricity to certain parts of Dlamini as the community is denying Eskom access to the area to install prepaid split meters. The community leaders, together with the community, have been engaged on this  project implementation ahead of time. However, the community prevented Eskom from resuming work yesterday, 27 January 2022.

Eskom is in the process of installing prepaid split meters throughout the Gauteng province following the low payment trends that affect its revenue. The installation of prepaid split meters is to help customers to manage their own electricity consumption.

“Electricity supply will not be restored until we receive confirmation that the community is ready to allow our employees safe access into the area and will not interfere with them while they do their work. It is important for Eskom to be certain that it can guarantee the safety of its employees before it can dispatch them to resume with operations”, says Mashangu Xivambu, Gauteng Maintenance and Operations Senior Manager.
