Eskom will be suspending loadshedding from 08:00 this morning as generation capacity recovers
Sunday, 07 February 2021: Eskom is pleased to inform the public that loadshedding will be suspended from 08:00 this morning as generation capacity has sufficiently recovered. Since Friday evening, Eskom teams returned four generation units to service at the Medupi Power Station as the coal constraints improved. Another two units also returned to service during in the same period while the emergency generation reserves have sufficiently recovered.
Eskom would like to thank the people of South Africa for their patience and support during the loadshedding, which is implemented as a last resort in order to protect the integrity of the system.
As previously communicated, Eskom continues to implement reliability maintenance during this period, and as such the system will continue to be constrained, with the risk of loadshedding remaining elevated. We currently have 4 664MW on planned maintenance, while another 13 539MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.
Eskom requests the public to continue using electricity sparingly as the system remains vulnerable and unpredictable.
Eskom will communicate timeously should there be any significant changes to the power system.
