Loadshedding will be suspended where possible over the weekend and varied between Stages 1 and 2 for other periods

Friday, 17 March 2023: Due to some recovery in generation capacity over the past 48 hours and lower expected demand, loadshedding will be reduced to Stage 1 from 05:00 on Saturday until 16:00. Thereafter, loadshedding will be increased to Stage 2 until 05:00 on Sunday. Loadshedding will be suspended on Sunday between 05:00 and 16:00. Thereafter, Stage 1 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 on Sunday until 16:00 on Monday. Stage 2 loadshedding will be in force from 16:00 on Monday until 05:00 on Tuesday. Loadshedding will then again be suspended from 05:00 on Tuesday until 16:00, thereafter Stage 2 will be implemented until further notice. Please refer to the table below for the schedule:

Breakdowns are currently at 14 256MW of generating capacity while 4 765MW of generating capacity is out of service for planned maintenance. The lower expected weekend demand has allowed Eskom to reduce the required stages of loadshedding and suspend where possible.

During the last 24 hours a generating unit each at Camden and two units at Hendrina power stations were taken offline for repairs.

We thank all South Africans for continuing to use electricity sparingly to help alleviate the pressure on the power system.
