LIGHTNING STRIKE LEADS TO LOSS OF SUPPLY TO VREDE
TUESDAY, 10 NOVEMBER 2020: Due to a fault on the Standerton 88 kV line, supply to Vrede and Ascent Substations in the Eastern Free State has been interrupted.  The fault occurred when one of the poles on the line was struck by lightning.  As a result, Vrede, Thembalihle, Zenzelene and all rural lines in the Vrede area are experiencing an electricity supply interruption.

The following rural lines are affected:

·        Vrede-Roadside
·        Vrede-Steeldrift
·        Vrede-Memel
·        Vrede-Warden
·        Warden-Holspruit
·        Ascent-Mamre
·        Ascent-Bethel
·        Ascent-Rietpoort
Wet terrain caused difficulty for Eskom in accessing the affected structures, but thanks to the assistance of farmers in the area, the fault is currently being attended to.  If all goes according to plan, supply should be restored by late this afternoon.

We are also aware of numerous single customer faults that occurred as a result of the weather conditions.  Once the main fault has been addressed, single customer faults will be attended to.

Eskom apologises for the inconvenience and urges electricity users to remain patient and to treat all electrical installations as live and dangerous at all times as electricity can be switched on without notice.

Enquiries can be directed to the Eskom Contact Centre at 08600 ESKOM / 37566.
