Project to rebuild the vandalised Gravett substation is underway

Thursday 2 June 2022:  Efforts to rebuild the Gravett substation that was extensively damaged are underway. Eskom technicians are working around the clock to accelerate the rebuilding process. The estimated time to restore supply to the affected customers is Sunday 5 June 2022.

The substation was severely damaged on Sunday 28 May 2022, leaving small business customers in the Driemanskap plots, Glenroy Farms, Rooikraal and Suikerbosrand without electricity supply.  Eskom in Gauteng has observed with concern, the increasing number of incidents of electricity infrastructure vandalism across the province. These criminal acts do not only impact the economy, but also come at an exorbitant financial cost to repair, replace or rebuild the vandalised equipment.
