Stage 2 loadshedding will continue until 16:00 today. Thereafter, Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented until 05:00 on Wednesday.
Tuesday, 29 August 2023: Stage 2 loadshedding is currently in force until 16:00 this afternoon. Thereafter, Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented until 05:00 on Wednesday. This pattern will be implemented daily until further notice. The implementation of the higher stages of loadshedding is due to the loss of additional generation units over the past 24 hours however, Eskom will endeavour to reduce stages of loadshedding where possible. Eskom will publish another update should any significant changes occur.
Breakdowns are currently at 16 154MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 5 970MW.
Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit at Duvha, Kendal and Majuba power stations was returned to service.
In the same period, a generating unit at Camden, Kendal, Kriel, Kusile, Matla and two generating units at Matimba power stations were taken offline for repairs.
The delay in returning to service a generating unit at Tutuka and Kendal Power Stations is also contributing to the current capacity constraints.
Eskom teams are working tirelessly to return these generating units to service.
Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand is 28 512MW and we appeal to the members of the public to continue reducing demand by switching off non-essential appliances. We would like to thank those who do heed the call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently, including switching off geysers and pool pumps from 17:00 to 21:00, as this lowers demand and helps in alleviating the pressure on the power system and contributes to lower stages of loadshedding.
