The transformer trip happened while Eskom is repairing and replacing the damaged equipment after the extensive fire at the substation.

The fire at the substation caused a major shutdown (supply interruption) to major parts of Sebokeng. The power utility is implementing a temporary measure to supply electricity to Polokong, Sebokeng Zones 16, 17, 18, 21 and 24 and parts of Zone 10 on a rotational basis.  However, Eskom is unable to provide supply to Golden Gardens using alternative methods due to the way the network is configured.
