Cable theft leads to loss of supply to Thabong
FRIDAY, 14 DECEMBER 2018: Cable theft at Thabong Bulk Substation in the early hours of this morning has resulted in partial and intermittent loss of supply to parts of Thabong Township in Welkom.
Eskom technicians are still assessing the extent of the damage. An estimated restoration time is not yet known and will only be communicated once the damage has been assessed.
While we are doing everything possible to restore electricity supply as speedily as possible, repairing damage caused by vandalism takes longer compared to restoration of supply lost due to other unplanned outages.
Eskom apologises for the inconvenience and urges those affected to be patient while supply is being restored. Electricity supply can be switched on without notice. Customers are therefore reminded to treat all electrical sockets and appliances as live and dangerous.
We urge community members to immediately report any suspicious activity relating to theft and vandalism of electrical infrastructure to the relevant authorities.
