Issue: Vandalism Safety tips What does it look like?
It is a criminal offence to deliberately break and steal covers and fences or damages doors of meter boxes, sub-stations, mini sub-stations and any other Eskom property. This is usually done to either steal oil or cables or connect illegally to the Eskom network. Eskom calls on everyone to respect property and keep their distance from installations. Making any contact whatsoever with any Eskom property could lead to you being injured or killed, getting arrested and even prosecuted.
Also, too often, innocent people lose their lives due to Eskom equipment/structures theft.  The saddest and most concerning part for Eskom is that it is often children who are electrocuted when they unwittingly touch vandalised equipment such as open kiosks or low-hanging or exposed live cables (cut overhead cables that are hanging free or dug-up underground cables).
  • Do not interfere with or vandalise (damage) Eskom property and if you see vandalism, report it to Eskom on 08600 37566 (ESKOM), warn others and keep away.
  • Educate your children about this as well.
