Electricity supply restored to essential services in Sebokeng

Friday, 22 July 2022:  Electricity supply has been restored to essential services in Sebokeng, Vaal, following a major shutdown at the Sebokeng substation.  Eskom restored supply to the Sebokeng and Naledi Nkanyezi hospitals, fire department, police station, magistrate court and the departments of Home Affairs and Social Development, yesterday, 21 July 2022 at 14:30. Sebokeng Zone 14 and parts of Zone 10 are at this stage, the only residential areas whose supply has been restored.

The power utility has been working around the clock to restore supply to Golden Gardens, Polokong, Sebokeng Zones 14, 16, 17, 18, 21 & 24 and the remaining part of Zone 10.  Eskom previously reported that site assessments revealed extensive damages at the substation and estimated that supply could be restored within three to four days. The shutdown at the Sebokeng substation occurred on Monday, 18 July 2022 at around 21h42 resulting from a burnt transformer leaving a large part of Sebokeng without electricity supply.

Eskom apologises for the inconvenience this causes, and appeals for patience as it works on restoring supply to the remaining affected customers.
