Tuesday , 04 July 2023: Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 today until midnight. On Wednesday and Thursday, Stage 1 loadshedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00, followed by Stage 3 loadshedding from 16:00 until midnight on both days. The implementation of Stage 1 loadshedding is due to an increase in generation unit failures. Loadshedding will be suspended from midnight on Thursday until 16:00 on Friday and Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented again from 16:00 until midnight. Eskom will publish another update should any significant changes occur.

Breakdowns currently amounts to 14 991MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 4 264MW.

Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Grootvlei, Kriel and Matla power stations was returned to service.

In the same period, a generation unit each at Majuba and Tutuka power stations was taken out of service due to breakdowns.

The delay in returning to service a generating unit at Tutuka Power Station is contributing to the current capacity constraints. Eskom teams are working around the clock to return generating units to service over the next few days.

We thank those South Africans who do heed the call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently, including switching off geysers from 17:00 to 21:00, as this lowers demand and helps in alleviating the pressure on the power system and contributes to lower stages of loadshedding.
