Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 today with Stages 3 and 4 loadshedding being implemented over the weekend.
Friday, 12 January 2024: Due to further setbacks resulting in the shutdown of six generating units, as well as the delay in returning three generating units to service, Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented at 16:00 on Friday afternoon. This will be followed by Stage 3 loadshedding from 05:00 on Saturday until 16:00 when Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented. This pattern of Stage 3 loadshedding from 05:00 to 16:00 and Stage 4 loadshedding from 16:00 to 05:00 will continue until Sunday when Eskom will share a further update for the week ahead.
Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes should it be required.
Unplanned outages are currently at 15 561MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 7 828MW.
Eskom Power Station General Managers and their teams are working tirelessly to ensure that 1 960MW of generating capacity is returned to service by Monday evening.
Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand for Friday is 25 169MW.
We would like to thank those who do heed the call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently, including switching off geysers and pool pumps from 17:00 to 21:00, as this lowers demand and helps in alleviating the pressure on the power system and contributes to lower stages of loadshedding.
